Beech Trees in Glen Lyon

Mature beech trees dominate this part of the glen. There is no question that their amenity value is very strong, especially in the spring and autumn months. Beech will readily regenerate under native broadleaved woods, especially in shleterd fertile sites such as this. Here, they are just outwith an SSSI site. Balancing the requirements of such sites with wider amenity will be a significant issue here. The general public in Highland Perthshire are particularly attached to their beech trees, and, on a day like today, who would not be impressed with this type of woodland.
