Many watercourses have dense tree growth on both banks with the result that no light gets through to the water. The Errochty Water, coming from a resevoir, is already much colder than it should be. This shading exacerbates the problem. Letting in some light (& heat) allows a more varied temperature regime in the watercourse, making it more attractive for fish.
