One of the important outputs from our survey work has been the documenting of aspen stands in these three glens. Aspen is a significant minor component of many of our native woodland types. On 3rd/ 4th October, the second Scottish Aspen Conference took place in Boat of Garten on Speyside, with over 100 delegates from both the public and private sectors. It was organized by the Highland Aspen Group, in which Scottish Native Woods play a significant role, alongside many other organizations and interested individuals. Below are about 60 photographs of the field visits on Saturday, to woods around Boat of Garten and Grantown on Spey.
Scottish Native Woods will shortly be launching our 2020 Vision for Aspen in Scotland, that by that date that you will never be more than a mile from a stand of managed aspen along any of Scotland's main rivers, lochs and tributaries. Our catchphrase is:
Sssshhh........listen! Look out for Aspen.
That is me on holiday now for two weeks, back 22nd October............
