Loch Garry Tree Project

This is Loch Garry, just to the west of Drumochter as you go up the A9. There are little enclosures of trees planted all the way along this loch, originating from the late 1980's and planted by staff from the Freshwater Fisheries Lab in Pitlochry. A number of these people were original founders and trustees of Scottish Native Woods. A huge amount of progress has been made since then, with native woodland awareness having moved in to the mainstream, but it was interesting walking along here knowing the history of these little plots. They were a big thing at the time, and still serve a useful educational purpose. The rowan and whitebeam trees above were photographed here.
